Hepatitis means inflammation of liver. There are many hepatitis types namely A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. HEPATITIS A: This is one of the hepatitis types. This is caused by HAV. It is also called “infectious hepatitis”. This type is always acute and never chronic. It can be cured. The virus spreads through oral kissing and through stools when hands are not washed properly. If proper sanitary conditions are not observed then the virus is spread form the infected. The household members of the infected person must be careful and follow good sanitation.
HEPATITIS B: This is the next hepatitis type. It is called “serum hepatitis”. The virus responsible for this hepatitis type is HBV. The modes of spreading are sexual contact; the transfer of serum through needles contaminated with infected blood, drug needles, accidental blood transfusion, tattooing with unsterile needles, and infected mothers to newborns. If the infection becomes chronic then it may last for 6 months to many years. The infected person may infect others as long as he has the infection. The patient develops risk of liver cancer and live failure. To prevent this hepatitis type one must ensure sterile needles a re needed. Blood must be tested before blood transfusion. HEPATITIS C: This hepatitis type is caused by virus HCV. The mode of spreading is almost similar to that of hepatitis B. A high percentage of patients develop chronic HPC hepatitis. Transfusion associated hepatitis are mostly caused by hepatitis C. They are also at the risk of developing liver cancer and liver failure.
HEPATITIS D: This is also one of the hepatitis types and is caused by HDV virus. If you are already infected with hepatitis B then you may get hepatitis D. Hepatitis D makes the liver swollen. This also spreads through unprotected sex, dirty needles, and contact with infected blood. It leads to liver scarring. The combination of B and D virus is very difficult to treat. HEPATITIS E: This hepatitis type is caused by HEV virus. This virus is spread through the water you drink. If the water you drink is infected with virus then you get the infection. It also causes swelling of liver. It does not last for a long term. The damage is for a short period.
HEPATITIS F: it is caused by HFV. The virus is also called hypothetical virus. This virus can not be treated. Scientists and doctors are conducting researches and soon medicines will be discovered. HEPATITIS G: this is one of the hepatitis types caused by HGV virus. This is a new form of liver inflammation. This is usually asymptomatic and may cause mild diseases in some. It is mainly contacted through exposure to contaminated blood. |
